Numerical analyses of design extension conditions for sodium-cooled fast reactor designed in Japan

Yamano, Hidemasa; Kubo, Shigenobu; Tokizaki, Minako*; Nakamura, Hironori*

Proceedings of International Conference on Topical Issues in Nuclear Installation Safety; Strengthening Safety of Evolutionary and Innovative Reactor Designs (TIC 2022) (Internet), 12 Pages, 2022/10

Specific design features of advanced sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFRs) designed in Japan are a passive reactor shutdown system, a passive decay heat removal system (DHRS), and an in-vessel retention (IVR) concept against an anticipated transients without scram (ATWS) in design extension condition (DECs). The present paper describes numerical analysis methodologies for event sequences studied in Japan and some numerical analyses of DECs to show the effectiveness of the passive shutdown system against a typical ATWS and severe accident mitigation measures for the IVR of molten core. For the passive shutdown capability, the numerical analysis has demonstrated the effectiveness of a self-actuated shutdown system against a severe ATWS event, for which the temperature response time was separately evaluated by a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. A recently developed debris-bed cooling analysis methodology coupled with a CFD code and a debris-bed module has successfully simulated a three-dimensional coolant flow field near the debris bed with the passive DHRS capability in order to demonstrate the debris-bed coolability on a core catcher.

Distance information display system for supporting decommissioning work of nuclear power plants

Miki, Naoya*; Harazono, Yuki*; Ishii, Hirotake*; Shimoda, Hiroshi*; Koda, Yuya

International Electronic Journal of Nuclear Safety and Simulation (Internet), 9(2), p.162 - 171, 2018/12

Kyoto University reports on the distance information display system developed in collaboration between "Fugen" and Kyoto University. In the distance information display system, the worker can easily measure the distance of the object. In this presentation, we report the test results carried out with "Fugen" and the questionnaire results of the subjects.

Distance Information Display System using augmented reality for supporting decommissioning work

Miki, Naoya*; Harazono, Yuki*; Ishii, Hirotake*; Shimoda, Hiroshi*; Koda, Yuya

Proceedings of 2nd International Conference on Computer-Human Interaction Research and Applications (CHIRA 2018) (USB Flash Drive), p.134 - 140, 2018/09

In this study, in order to make measuring lengths of the objects and the gaps at NPPs more efficient, the Distance Information Display System was developed, which make it easy for the dismantling workers to measure them. The results showed that the Distance Information Display System developed in this study can be used easily with extremely simple operation by the dismantling workers at NPPs, and the workers can also measure the lengths in a short time.

The Initiative towards construction of Knowledge Management System in FUGEN Decommissioning Engineering Center

Tezuka, Masashi; Taruta, Yasuyoshi; Koda, Yuya

Dekomisshoningu Giho, (56), p.46 - 54, 2017/09

Implementation of decommissioning needs much plant information in period of Design, construction and operation. In addition, it is essential for efficient dismantling works to advance the technologies, data, lessons and learns, experiences and documents by getting through the decommissioning process. On the other hands, as workers who operated or maintained the plant are aging and retiring, their empirical knowledge has been lost. For the purpose of safety and reasonability of further decommissioning activities, Knowledge Management System (KMS) has been producing in FUGEN which is now under decommissioning. KMS is an initiative of human resources development and to pass on expertise and knowledge to the younger generations. The system based on the prototype of FUGEN aims a high versatility system available for further decommissioning facilities.

Application of the extended bias factor method for highly reliable benchmark suite

Tokashiki, Mikio*; Ikehara, Tadashi*; Tada, Kenichi; Egawa, Toru*; Yokoyama, Kenji; Iwamoto, Osamu

no journal, ,

The bias factor methods have been widely used for applications to reduce uncertainties of the predicted value in the reactor physics characteristics. In the present study, an attempt has been made to apply the extended bias factor method to qualifying the reliability of measured data by assuming the uncertainty of the numerical model being negligible and the covariance of cross section being reliable. In this presentation, comparison results will be shown between actual measured value and the predicted value of a benchmark case sampled from the benchmark suite. Furthermore, it will be shown that the comparison and their uncertainty enable us to qualify the degree of reliability of the actual measured value.
